The industrial heating mattress is an active insulation solution designed to protect your equipment from freezing, keep your fluids at temperature or heat up your installations. Unlike a conventional insulation jacket, which simply limits heat loss, the heating mattress incorporates a heating cable capable of generating heat autonomously.
At Calomatech, we design and manufacture custom heating mattresss in our workshops in Normandy. Each jacket is adapted to the exact shape of your equipment, valves, pipework, pumps and filters, to ensure even heat distribution and optimal efficiency. Our expertise in industrial insulation enables us to meet the strictest requirements, including in ATEX environments.
What is an industrial heating mattress?
An industrial heating mattress is an active thermal insulation device. It combines two essential functions:
- An insulating cover made of technical fabrics and high-performance insulation (glass wool) that limits heat loss to the outside.
- An integrated heating system in the form of a flexible heating cable, which produces heat and distributes it evenly over the equipment to be protected.
This combination not only makes it possible to retain existing heat, but also to generate heat when conditions require it: sub-zero outdoor temperatures, fluids that must be kept above a critical threshold, or processes requiring a temperature increase.
The heating mattress stands out for its flexibility and removability. It fits complex industrial equipment shapes perfectly and can be removed in seconds for maintenance operations, without tools.

The 3 functions of a heating mattress
Freeze protection for installations
In winter or in unheated environments, freezing represents a major risk for industrial installations. Water and many fluids can solidify in pipework, causing blockages, overpressure and potentially equipment failures.
The heating mattress provides effective freeze protection by keeping the surface temperature above freezing point. As soon as the ambient temperature drops, the heating system activates to prevent any ice formation. This function is particularly critical for outdoor valves, exposed pipework and equipment located in unheated areas.
Temperature maintenance for fluids
Some industrial fluids need to be kept within a precise temperature range to preserve their properties. This is the case for viscous products, thermal oils, resins and also food-grade fluids.
The heating mattress makes it possible to maintain a constant temperature throughout the circuit, including at critical points (valves, flanges, filters) where heat losses are generally greatest. Thanks to the thermostat option, you can set the target temperature and ensure stable process conditions.
Heating and temperature ramp-up
In some cases, it is necessary to bring equipment or a fluid up to its operating temperature before starting a process. The heating mattress enables this gradual and controlled temperature ramp-up, without relying on other energy sources.
This function is useful for restarting installations after a prolonged shutdown, reheating solidified products in pipework, or preparing fluids before injection into a manufacturing process.
Why choose this solution?
HIGH-PERFORMANCE MATERIALS
We use technical fabrics, certified insulation and quality heating cables to ensure durability and resistance under the most demanding industrial conditions.
removable and reusable
Our heating mattresss are designed to be removed and refitted easily, without tools. They can be reused after maintenance operations or if your installations are modified.
THERMAL CONTROL AND EFFICIENCY
Freeze protection, precise temperature control and optimised energy performance thanks to high-performance insulation that limits heat loss and promotes energy savings.
CUSTOM SOLUTION
Each jacket is manufactured to the exact dimensions of your equipment. This perfect fit ensures even heat distribution and maximum efficiency, without thermal bridging.
A project, an urgent need?
Applications for the industrial heating mattress
The heating mattress adapts to a wide variety of equipment and configurations. Here are the main applications:
- Valves and fittings : valves are critical points where heat losses are high. The heating mattress fits their complex shape and keeps the fluid at temperature as it passes through the control component.
- Pipework and pipelines: for pipe sections exposed to cold or located outdoors, the heating mattress provides continuous protection against freezing and temperature fluctuations.
- Pumps and filters : these sensitive items of equipment can be damaged by freezing or operation at an unsuitable temperature. The heating mattress protects them effectively.
- Tanks and reservoirs: keeping storage tanks at temperature helps preserve product properties and makes draining easier
- Heat exchangers and manifolds: heat exchangers and steam manifolds benefit from heated insulation to optimise their performance.
- Outdoor critical points: expansion joints, flanges, steam traps and other accessories located outdoors or in unheated rooms are particularly exposed and require active protection
Our heating mattresss are used in many sectors:
Food processing, chemicals, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, energy, paper mills, water treatment…
Heating jackets ensure temperature maintenance for industrial equipment, freeze protection for fluid networks and the securing of sensitive processes, indoors and outdoors.
In demanding marine environments, heating mattresss provide freeze protection for onboard networks, temperature maintenance for fluid circuits, as well as securing pumps, valves and fittings exposed to harsh weather conditions and corrosive atmospheres.
RESIDENTIAL, TERTIARY, DISTRICT HEATING NETWORKS (DHN)
Heating jackets are used to secure heating and domestic hot water installations, provide thermal protection for networks in plant rooms or outdoors, and maintain the temperature of substations and equipment in district heating networks.

What is the difference between an insulation jacket and a heating mattress?
The insulation jacket is a passive solution: it retains existing heat by limiting heat loss to the outside. The heating mattress is an active solution: it incorporates a heating cable capable of generating heat autonomously. The heating mattress is therefore recommended when passive insulation is not sufficient, particularly for freeze protection or temperature maintenance for sensitive fluids.
Can a heating mattress be used in an ATEX zone?
Yes, our heating mattresss can be adapted for explosive atmospheres (ATEX) on request. We then select components and heating cables certified for these high-risk environments.
What is the service life of an industrial heating mattress?
The service life of a heating mattress depends on operating conditions and service temperature. As a general rule, it is 10 years for temperatures below 120°C and 5 years for temperatures above 120°C. Regular maintenance and appropriate storage during periods of non-use help extend this service life.
Is the heating mattress eligible for CEE grants?
Insulating critical points is eligible for Energy Savings Certificates (CEE) under the BAT-TH-155 sheet for the tertiary sector. Calomatech supports you with preparing your CEE application so you can benefit from this financial support.
Can the jacket be easily removed for maintenance?
Yes, our heating mattresss are designed to be removed and refitted quickly, without tools. The fastening system with loops, straps and metal buckles allows a single person to intervene in a few seconds. This feature greatly facilitates maintenance operations on your equipment.
What heating power should I choose for my installation?
Heating power depends on several factors: the minimum ambient temperature, the desired setpoint temperature, the surface to be heated and the fluid characteristics. Our engineering office carries out precise sizing for each project to propose the power level suited to your needs.
